On the eve of his having to self-report to federal prison for the next three years, the brother-in-law of U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney lashed out at the congressman, calling him a “liar” who threw “my sister under the bus for his career.”
Breaking his silence for the first time about his family’s former offshore gambling operation, Daniel Eremian, 62, told reporters at U.S. District Court in Boston today the drama has torn his family apart, and that Tierney’s repeated claims that he knew nothing about Antigua-based Sports Off Shore or the source of the money his wife was raking in is “all hogwash.”
“Tierney is the biggest liar in the world,” Eremian said. “He knew everything that was going on in my family for years. He sat with bookies at Fenway Park [map].”
Attempts to reach Tierney (D-Salem) and his spokespeople for comment by phone and email were not immediately successful.
Richard R. Tisei, former state Senate minority leader and Tierney’s Republican challenger for the 6th District seat on Capitol Hill, told the Herald, “It’s been apparent from the beginning that John knew about the criminal activity that was happening around him for more than a decade.
“He’s obviously turned a blind eye toward what’s been occurring,” Tisei said. “He expects voters to be believe he’s Mr. Magoo. Today we found out that’s true.”
