TISEI: OBAMA WAS RIGHT, CLINTON IS RIGHT, and TIERNEY IS WRONG ON TAXES
(Lynnfield, MA) — Congressional candidate Richard Tisei today criticized incumbent John Tierney’s Aug. 1 vote to effectively increase taxes as well as his continued refusal to take actions to reign in out-of-control federal spending. Tierney is a longtime opponent of the “Bush tax cuts.”
“In August of 2009, President Obama told NBC’s Chuck Todd that ‘you don’t raise taxes in a recession,’” said Tisei. “I agree with what the President said at that time. Unfortunately, for political reasons that will only hurt the struggling economy, John Tierney and his friends seem to think that tax increases will somehow help the economy. That goes against common sense, especially during these very difficult economic times. Just today, the national unemployment rate shot back up to 8.3%. Further increasing taxes on job creators, in this environment, makes absolutely no sense.”
“On January 25, 2012, former President Bill Clinton said that now is not the time to raise taxes on ‘anyone,’” said Tisei. I agree with President Clinton: now isn’t the time to raise taxes on anyone – not when the economy is flat on it’s back.” See what President Clinton had to say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7qpQSylRmg
“John Tierney recently supported the Medical Device Tax, which will hurt one of the North Shore’s most important employers and result in fewer of the kind of jobs we desperately need. He’s supported extensive tax increases – 21 in all – that are a part of Obamacare. Now, apparently, John Tierney believes that raising taxes as the economy is clearly faltering is the right thing to do,” said Tisei. “He couldn’t be more wrong and this demonstrates, yet again, why it’s time for new representation in Washington.”
“We need an end to unstable economic policies from the politicians in Washington that are calculated for political benefit rather than real, sustained economic growth. We need predictable tax and regulatory policies so that small businesses can begin to grow again,” said Tisei. “We’re adding unconscionable amounts of debt to the backs of the American people and that must end. More taxes, more regulations, more debt – that is a recipe for failure. John Tierney, sadly, supports the policies that have tied the American economy up in knots. We need practical, problem-solving men and women from both parties to begin to resolve these enormous problems so that the people can begin to work and prosper again.”
