REALLY??? THIS WAS A NO-BRAINER, JOHN TIERNEY!
(Lynnfield, MA) — Congressional candidate Richard Tisei today sharply criticized Congressman John Tierney for his vote yesterday against repealing the 2.3% Medical Device Tax that will take effect in 2013 and targets one of the 6th Congressional district’s most important employers. Tisei has spent weeks urging Tierney to vote for HR 436, which would repeal the onerous tax on local high-tech job creators that make life-saving medical devices.
“This vote clearly demonstrates how unthinking John Tierney has become,” said Tisei. “This time, he even voted against fellow Democrats, including Rep. Tsongas and Rep. Keating. At least Elizabeth Warren had the good sense to change her position on this job killing tax. Yet again, John Tierney has revealed himself to be AWOL when it comes to protecting Massachusetts jobs during one of the worst economic times in our country’s history.”
“A Congressman should have the integrity to vote for the interests of the people – particularly when the right vote is so obvious. A middle schooler with a Civics class under her belt could have figured out the right way to vote on this,” said Tisei. “Why would John Tierney vote in such an unthinking, partisan way? As some of our best, most innovative job creators are harmed, Tierney plays petty politics. It is outrageous and John Tierney owes an explanation to thousands of hard-working employees in this district.”
“This demonstrates why the voters are frustrated with Washington. Sen. Scott Brown has led the way in being a truly bi-partisan politician, voting for the interests of the people of Massachusetts. He votes with the Democrats when they’re right. He votes with Republicans when they’re right,” said Tisei. “On this vote, other Democrats have joined with Republicans to vote the right way. John Tierney demonstrates again and again that he takes his orders from somewhere else – certainly not the voters and workers of our district. When I’m Congressman, they can be assured that I’ll have a very different attitude.”
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 270-146 in favor of H.R. 436 yesterday. The bill would repeal the 2.3% Medical Device Excise Tax that is part of Obamacare. Nearly 50,000 Massachusetts jobs, thousands of which are in the 6th Congressional district, could be harmed by the tax.
